Elgiloy Specialty Metals precision rolls 30+ nickel and nickel-iron grades into strip, foil and coil — from commercially pure nickel for battery and electronic parts to age-hardenable superalloys for turbine hot sections. Nickel alloy strip is rolled, annealed and slit at our Elgin and Hampshire, Illinois mills and shipped across North America, Europe and Asia, with low minimum order quantities.

Nickel’s austenitic structure stays stable from cryogenic temperatures through the hot section of a gas turbine, which is why nickel alloys are chosen where stainless steel runs out of room. Alloyed with chromium and molybdenum they resist pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress-corrosion cracking. Alloyed with aluminum or tungsten they form tenacious oxide scales and hold strength at very high temperature. Age-hardened with aluminum and titanium they deliver fastener and spring strength that survives long soaks at temperature.
Getting those properties in thin, flat, dimensionally consistent coil is the hard part. Work-hardening rates are high, the alloys are expensive enough that yield matters, and finished parts — bellows convolutions, honeycomb seal foil, springs, diaphragms, battery tabs — are unforgiving of gauge variation and poor shape. That is the problem our mills are built around.
Elgiloy Specialty Metals runs three dedicated rolling mills, including multiple 20-high configurations, with automated gauge and shape control on every pass.
| Thickness, annealed | .0008″ – .100″ |

Nickel alloy strip and coil rolled at Elgiloy’s Elgin and Hampshire, Illinois mills goes into commercial and mission-critical parts across:
Elgiloy holds AS9100 certification and operates an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and NADCAP accredited mechanical testing laboratory. We hold approvals from Pratt & Whitney, GE Aerospace, Rolls-Royce, Mitsubishi and BAE Systems, and supply metals meeting NRC regulations.
Nickel alloy coil is annealed in vertical furnaces under hydrogen or argon atmospheres, tension leveled, precision slit and custom packaged so it arrives flat, clean and ready to run.

Elgiloy Specialty Metals rolls nickel alloy foil down to .0008″. Annealed material runs .0008″ to .100″ and tempered material .0008″ to .060″, in widths from .024″ to 40″.
Annealed through extra full hard and super full hard. Age-hardenable superalloys such as INCONEL 718, HAYNES 282 and A-286 are typically supplied solution-annealed so the part can be formed first and aged afterward.
Elgiloy’s minimum order quantities are low by industry standards. Three rolling mills allow flexible production scheduling, and the Quality and Engineering teams regularly support R&D trials and new product development runs.
Yes. Elgiloy performs precision slitting, tension leveling and custom packaging in house at its Illinois facilities, so nickel strip can be supplied at your finished width, edge condition and coil configuration.
Common ones include AMS 5596, AMS 5597 and ASTM B670 for INCONEL 718; ASTM B443, AMS 5599 and AMS 5869 for INCONEL 625; ASTM B575 and ASTM B906 for HASTELLOY C-276; AMS 5878 and ASTM B435 for HAYNES 230; and ASTM B162 for Nickel 200 and 201. The full list for each grade is on its data sheet.
HASTELLOY C-276, C-22 and C-2000 are the usual starting points for chloride-bearing and mixed-acid service, with INCONEL 600 and INCOLOY 825 specified in other conditions. Compare the data sheets above, then talk to our technical team about your operating environment before you commit.
Use our strip weight and length calculator, which accounts for alloy density, gauge, width and coil dimensions.
Send us alloy, gauge, width, temper, finish and quantity — or send us the part and the environment it has to survive, and we will help you narrow the alloy.
