HASTELLOY® C-2000® alloy broadens the range of the nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy family with the addition of copper which allows for resistance to an extensive range of corrosive chemicals including sulfuric, hydrochloric, and hydrofluoric acids over large temperature ranges. Molybdenum and copper provide excellent corrosion resistance to reducing media while the chromium content gives good oxidizing resistance.

The HASTELLOY® C-2000® alloy is unique within the spectrum of Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum alloys because it is resistant to a wide range of corrosive chemicals which includes most types of acids. This is due to the Copper content in the strip itself. Not only can it handle these corrosive materials, it can do so at extreme temperature ranges. Meanwhile, the presence of Molybdenum still gives excellent resistance to corrosion, and the Chromium provides resistance to oxidation. Combining all of these characteristics together makes for a strip alloy that has the same versatility as your standard Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum alloys with the added benefits of the presence of Copper.
Besides being resistant to acids, HASTELLOY® C-2000® alloy strip also stands up to process streams that contain traces of ferric ions and dissolved oxygen. Furthermore, it is exceptionally resistant to chloride solutions that can lead to stress corrosion cracking, something that is common among stainless steels. It can also withstand pitting and crevice attack when it comes in contact with chlorides. Perhaps its greatest strength is that it is still as easy to weld and to form as other Nickel alloys on the market.
The extremes that HASTELLOY® C-2000® alloy can handle make it an invaluable tool in the chemical processing industry. When engineers are creating equipment that can withstand the rigorous demands that chemical processing can put on a machine, it is important that all of the individual pieces within the machine can hold up over time. Otherwise, too much time will be spent on maintenance and not enough time spent on the task at hand. Oftentimes, Chemical processing must deal with highly corrosive materials which have to operate at extreme temperature ranges. Therefore, it needs a strip that can handle both of those qualifications. HASTELLOY® C-2000® alloy does just that.
There are 12 corrosion resistant alloys within the spectrum of HASTELLOY®. While they all are mostly made up of Nickel, Chromium, and Molybdenum, the 12 alloys all have different variants with different elements infused inside. The variation within HASTELLOY® C-2000® alloy is the small amount of Copper present. Though it only contains roughly 1.6% percent Copper, it is just enough to add the benefits, while still maintaining the properties that HASTELLOY® is known for.
