Additional Information on Titanium Grade 4

Much like its lower grade brethren, Grade 4 Titanium is extremely corrosion resistant, and shows a high level of weldability. Where it differs, however, is in its strength and ductility. Out of all of the pure grade titanium alloys, Grades 1 through 4, it is the strongest. However, it is the least ductile. This means that while it can withstand more punishment, it is not very easy to stretch out into wires or into thinner layers. This does not mean that the plate version of the alloy is not versatile though.

There are many places where you would need an alloy that is stronger, but you can sacrifice in its ductility. One industry that has made use of these properties is the medical field. You will find Titanium Grade 4 in a variety of different machines and instruments used in surgery and other medical areas. The medical field needs to have an alloy for their machines that is reliable, as human lives are at stake. They choose to use this alloy, which says something about how strong it is and what it can withstand.

Medicine is not the only area where you will find Grade 4 Titanium. Just like its counterparts, you will find it on any machine that is used in salt water environments. For instance, many aircraft carriers use Grade 4 Titanium on its husk. Due to the sheer size of the vessel, the plates used do not have to be hammered out or molded in a number of different shapes. However, because carriers are used in warfare, the strength of the alloy is greatly appreciated in case of an attack. It is not bulletproof by any means, but the extra strength goes a long way toward the weight of everything aboard the boat, and that it is normally at sea for longer periods of time compared to a boat made for personal use.
